Telecommunication Unit Idukki

Came into existence

Kerala Police Telecommunication unit is the backbone of the entire Police Force in the State. Police Telecommunication is functioning as per the Rules and Procedures of Government of India viz. Wireless and Telegraphic Act 1932, Radio Procedures and relevant Manuals. The basic duties and responsibilities of this Unit are to provide Telecommunication network to the day to day Policing in the Districts, to maintain the equipment and to repair the same through regular monitoring. Our other important duties include installation of special communication systems for VVIP Security bandobust, Sabarimala Festival season, Election duties, disaster management and grave Law and order situations etc.

Idukki Tele communication sub unit is formed on 1974. The Inspector of Police Tele communication is the head of this sub unit. District Police VHF control is functioning at Painavu, Idukki under over all control of District Police Chief Idukki. To provide VHF communication in the Idukki district a VHF Repeater station is installed at Sangumala, Munnar. In Idukki district 30 Police stations and Police offices / mobiles, KAP 5 Battalion and other guard points were established Police wireless communication under this Repeater station.

More over town repeaters were installed at Thodupuzha (H/B), Kattappana (H/B), Idukki (H/B), Munnar (H/B), Nedumkandom (H/B), Kumily (UHF), Adimaly (UHF) and Link Repeaters installed at Thodupuzha (L/B), Kuttikkanam (L/B), Marayoor (L/B)for the effective communications during Law and Order situations, VVIP visits , disaster Management and traffic duties. The vehicle shall have provisions for Mobile Repeater room, Mobile Control Room, Emergency Party carrier, Stock of emergency L&O equipments for disaster handling. To achieve State wide coverage different higher altitude hilly locations in the State were installed and functioning its Repeater Stations like Ponmudi in Thiruvananthapuram, Sankumala in Idukki, Nelliyampathy in Palakkad, Kurichiyermala in Wayanad and Mavungal in Kasaragod. A separate network CoB is used for communicate administrative and L/O issues from top to bottom and viceversa via Intranet. All the Police Computers shall be connected to the Net (E-mail/iAps) and as a result a speedy e-governance and paperless administration can be achieved. Similarly Crime information, missing, theft, found out, etc shall immediately be available in the net, thus the common public will be served in a nice form. Actions are in progress to implement this.

A vedio conferencing system is also functioning under the responsibilities of this unit . It facilitates vedio conferencing of senior police officers , students police cadet, janamaitry etc. All the aspects with respect to the repair and maintenance of the Computers in the District will be the responsibility of the Inspector of Police, Telecommunication
