Vanitha Help Line
Vanitha Help Line is an innovative project of Kerala Government to prevent and detect crimes against women. It also helps them to live and travel without fear or tension. Vanitha Help Line also assures assistance to women in emergency situations. Providing a friendly atmosphere to the women to share their problems and help them in reaching an amicable solutions are the mission of Vanitha Help Line.

Vanitha Help Line Thodupuzha is functioning along with the Control Room of Police Stations in every district as per Order No.GO(Rt) No.230/2009/Home dated 22.01.2009 of Kerala Government. In the year 2012 Woman Cell of Thodupuzha Police Station switched as Vanitha Help Line and is functioning round the clock. The Vanitha Help Line is headed by a Woman Sub-Inspector
Vanitha Help Line is functioning in the building of Thodupuzha Police Station which is situated in the heart of Thodupuzha and in the banks of Thodupuzha river. Thodupuzha Police Station, Traffic unit, Control Room, Inspector Of Police Office, Sub Divisional Police Office etc are functioning in the same building.
What we do
Petitions received in the Vanitha Help Line are disposed of after making proper direct enquiry under the leadership and supervision of a Woman Sub Inspector. Vanitha Help Line seeks assistance from District Probation Officer, Child Welfare Committee, Child Line etc according to the situations and if it is necessary to register an FIR it takes appropriate steps or actions with the help of concerned Police Stations.
Vanitha Help Line also take care of the wandering women and children in the streets, protect them and take appropriate steps to hand over them to their relatives or guardians. If such type of women or children have no relative or guardian, then the Vanitha Help Line assure their protection by handing over them to recognized shelter homes , emergency medical care is also provided if needed.
If the Vanitha Help Line got a call beyond the jurisdiction limit, then the details of the phone call recorded in the Phone Petition Register and within no time the details were passes to the concerned Police Station for providing police assistance.
As per the instruction of the then Assistant Superintendent of Police Smt. R.Nishanthini IPS, as part of Janamaithry Suraksha Project and in connection with the Woman Cell, Thodupzha a counseling centre to the needy petitioners has been started functioning on 25th March 2011 by using the service of Civil Police Officer 3204 Mahesh.C.K., who has a MSW degree .
In addition to this, in order to solve the petitions which arise due to the ill effects of alcohol an Alcoholics Anonymous Group is functioning in the Police Station Premises on every Saturday at 6.30PM. The addicted persons are directed to the Alcoholics Anonymous Group to free from the clutches of alcohol and if anybody needed treatment they are directed to Prathyasha, a de-addiction centre, Mylacombu, Thodupuzha.
Vanitha Help Line erected complaint boxes in Private Bus stand, KSRTC Bus stand and Civil Station Thodupuzha and appropriate action should be taken about the petitions received through such complaint boxes.
In addition to the above, as part of Janamaithry Suraksha Project, Vanitha Help Line also arranges various awareness classes in Kudumbasree units, Anganwadies etc.
Achievements and Awards
Malayala Manorama conducted a mock drill on 02.01.2013 to check the efficiency and working method of Vanitha Help Line in the state with the permission of Honourable Director General of Police, Kerala and as a result Woman Sub Inspector Of Police Smt.P.M.Sainaba, Woman Civil Police Officers WPCO 2783 Ushadevi.J and WPCO 2965 Nizamol K.H were awarded Good Service Entry for their excellent and time bound performance vide. D.O No.23/2013-ID.
Woman Sub Inspector Of Police Smt.P.M.Sainaba also awarded Good Service Entry for solving family problems through counseling. vide D.O No. 150/2012-ID.

Vanitha Help Line Kattappana started functioning on 13-06-2009 vide G2-20737/09-ID, dated 10-06-09 in Kattappana Gramapanchayat Building far away from 500 meters from Kattappana Police Station. Vanitha Help line is functioning around the clock.
This help line is functioning under the supervision of District Police Chief, Idukki, Deputy Superindent of Police, Crime Detachment as Nodal Officer and under the direct supervision of Woman Inspector of Police.
On 14-02-11, Kattappana Vanitha Helpline has got its own building constructed with the own fund allotted by Sri. Roshy Augustine MLA. Sri. Roshy Augustine MLA allotted about seven lakh rupees for constructing the building to Vanitha Helpline at Police Station Compound in the heart of Kattappana town near to the Bus stand. The Offices of the Deputy Superindendent of Police, Inspector of Police, Traffic Unit and Police Station etc. are functioning near by near.
Areas under the Kattappana Police Sub Division is the jurisdiction of the Unit.
Empowerment of Women and children is the main aim of this unit. All types of petitions received from various parts of the jurisdiction and conducting enquiries and make prompt disposal as far as possible. About 900 petitions received and almost all them were settled amicably in time. Also we gave proper care and protection to the wandering women and children with the help of recognized institutions like Assissi Snehashramam, Nariyanpara, Jeevan Jyothi Erattayar and Karunalayam at Rajakkadu. In the absence of department counselors, counseling were given to the need people with the help of NGOs under Social Justice Department.
Awareness classes and colony visits are conducting at Schools, tribal areas etc. to prevent sexual abuse against women and children and to empower the women and children.
Shadow patrolling at crowded places, patrolling at markets, town, bus stand school premises etc. are conducting every day to detect offence against women and children.
